One the most respected reggae personalities in Australia, Jesse I is known around the world as an authority on Jamaican music, and a purveyor of the finest roots, reggae and dancehall sounds.
In 1997 he started the reggae program Chant Down Babylon for student radio station SRA FM (now SYN FM), and in 1999 he moved to the bigger public broadcaster PBS FM, where he continues to host the same radio show, now under the name Babylon Burning. Over the last 20 years, the program has developed a following that extends beyond the core reggae scene, making Babylon Burning one of the most listened-to shows.
In addition to hosting Babylon Burning, Jesse I also DJs and MCs reggae and dancehall music live, and is one half of reggae sound crew Chant Down, together with Ras Crucial.
Jesse I has also toured Australia extensively and become a fixture of Melbourne’s concert and festival circuit. Past support gigs have included Chronixx, Demarco, Elephant Man, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Horace Andy, Lee Scratch Perry, The Wailers Band, The Mad Professor, and many more.
Also travelling to Jamaica six times where he conducted interviews with reggae’s biggest artists for Australian radio, voiced custom “dubplate specials” for exclusive play, and even performed live before Jamaican crowds (the toughest critics in the world!), Jesse I is the real deal!
